Clark wrote the script, in such a way, so that the responder feels what Ken, the protagonist feels. The responder is taken on a journey, where they begin to see Kens reasons for choosing death, they empathise with him, and along the journey come to an understanding of Ken’s situation, and respect his final decision. Ken was an artist, who relied on the use of his hands to express him self through his work, and his work was his passion in life, after his accident, he could never regain the use of his arms, resulting in the loss of his passion for art. He could have lived on, many years after his accident, but heavly dependant on machines to keep him alive, and this was not the life he wanted to live. I, for one, have learnt a great deal from this book, and I think the context the play was written in, is extremely important in understanding the play and the important message behind it.
