In some people’s eyes, Harrison Bergeron, and “Imagine” were places where the world was perfect. However, they are both very far from being anything close to perfect. In the governments eyes the world was all based on being fair so therefore it was perfect. There are many reasons in both the song and the movie that prove the government to be wrong. One example was Harrison’s life through his eyes. Harrison Bergeron and “Imagine” are not good examples of two worlds where everything was perfect and/or peaceful.

One example proving that the song and movie were not perfect was on line of the song. It states, “Nothing to kill or die for.” In the movie Harrison’s parents are not even aware of what really happened to Harrison when he supposedly died. In the world today, parents are very dedicated to their kids and will do anything for them. When the song says not to kill or die for anything, it is practically telling people not to care about their children and to not even worry what has happened to them. Most people will say that this is not a very good quality in the world.

Another bad quality proved in Harrison Bergeron and “Imagine” is when the song states in line 1, “Imagine there’s no heaven.” This actually relates to having nothing to kill or die for because a lot of people look forward to going to heaven and when there is nothing to die for and to go to heaven, there really is no point in living at all. In the movie Harrison kills himself at the end because he knows that the world is so useless and there really is no point in living. He also knows that there is really no reason in dying rather than his life will be better if there is no life at all.

As one could tell, when the world is so controlled and the government has based everything on socialism there is no way that the world would be perfect anyway. The song is a very powerful song if one is thinking of it in the same perspective as those in Harrison Bergeron. The last four lines in the song sums up the whole point and meaning. It says, “You may say I’m a . . . world will live as one.” The world is not living as one when there are so many restrictions or with no freedom or self-expressionism. Neither John Lennon’s “Imagine” or Kurt Vonnegut’s Harrison Bergeron would be one’s perfect idea of a perfect world to live in.
